Explore the junction of the Kangaroo and Shoalhaven Rivers against the stunning backdrop of sandstone cliffs. Travel to one of Kangaroo Valley’s sunken forests for a picnic and some peace and tranquillity. This is one of Kangaroo Valley’s most scenic and remote locations, easily accessible in a single day.


Time to allow:

4-8 hours - allows for travel time (20 - 25 mins) from Valley Outdoors, briefing and time on the water to paddle and take in the area

  • Azure Kingfishers

  • Sea Eagles

  • Echidnas

  • Wallaroos

  • Many more reptile and bird life

  • Sandstone cliffs 

  • Drowned forest (sunken trees)

  • Tallowa Dam spillway


Some other things to do on the water:

  • Picnic - when paddling up the Kangaroo River and Shoalhaven Gorge, there are some good spots to stop off and have a picnic next to the river

  • Swimming - The river is fresh water and safe for swimming on warm summer days.

  • Explore on foot - Some of the creek beds off the beaten path hide some beautiful secret water features.


Included in the hire:

  • Transport of the canoe and participants

  • Paddles and life jackets for all participants

  • Map of the area (1 per booking)

  • Basic instruction and local knowledge (approx 15 minutes of briefings)


Some things to consider:

  • Valley Outdoors offers free transport of canoe and participants with your hire. However, if you are transported by Valley Outdoors, you will have a set pick-up time. If you would like a flexible departure time we recommend following our staff out in your own vehicle. This option will allow you to finish up whenever you are ready and leave the canoe at the river for us to pick up later. 

  • If you decide to choose to drive your own vehicle, you will be asked to return all loose items back to Valley Outdoors as you depart.

  • There is minimal phone reception in the remote areas of Kangaroo Valley, Valley Outdoors advises a responsible approach to all physical activities to avoid injury when in a remote area.

  • You will be in Morton National Park. The following are prohibited:

  1. Dogs

  2. Smoking

  3. Fishing without a fishing license 

  4. Portable speakers and loud music
