Canoes are a very versatile craft and can be controlled with a large array of strokes.
Learning to paddle a tandem canoe, solo, gives a whole new level of adaptability to a paddler and allows them to use their boat in any way they see necessary and in a wide range of scenarios. This course is perfectly suited to prospective or existing guides, or anyone who wants to become a more proficient paddler.
Controlling a traditional open canoe with a single paddle can be a truly mesmerizing experience; Connecting you with your canoe, the water and your surroundings in a way that not many sports can.
It is a paddle sport of purposeful and present thought with a huge potential for constant learning and improvement through time and practice.
Proficiency can be gained in a few hours, whereas mastery can take many years!

Session Time
Allow approx 8 hours for this experience. Starting time is usually 9am - 5pm. However we can be flexible with starting times, just let us know.What you will learn:
- Concepts of solo canoeing and control principles- Introduction to advanced canoe strokes
- Combining strokes through feathering
- Maximizing efficiency when paddling a tandem canoe solo
- Managing a solo canoe in the elements and using them to your advantage
- Lifting techniques when putting a canoe on the car yourself
- Deep water self rescue (Solo)
- Deep water rescue (Assisted)
